*Please note* Registration is required for our programs to ensure space, snack and childcare.  Please register on the Thursday before the week of your program at or after 9:00am. 

We would love to see you!  The centre is open from 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00 from Monday to Thursday and 9:00-1:00 on Fridays for drop in.  Come enjoy some coffee, read the paper or talk to other people in the community anytime we are open. No registration needed.

We are closed from 1:00-4:00 on Fridays for staff meeting.

We offer a variety of programs, resources and services.

All programs are free, refreshments are included, and childcare is available.

Please register to avoid disappointment and to ensure that childcare is available.

Parent and Children’s Programs

Fairlanes Bowling - Halifax Shopping Centre Fridays from 3:00-5:00pm. Please call the Centre for more info. You must have your own transportation.  Children must be accompanied by an adult! Please come to the Centre to pick up your free pass.

Family Swim - Free family swim is offered for Bayers Westwood residents and Centre participants at Needham Pool on Saturdays from 2:00 – 3:30 pm and Women swim Tuesdays 7:00-8:00. Please come to the centre to pick up your free swimming pass.

Women’s World- Women’s Support group for all women. We talk about our families, friends, community and earn about resources. We learn to feel good about ourselves and what we do. Registration Required!

Birth to 6yrs Creative Play- We have moved! Join us for lots of great activities for you and your children (ages birth to 6). Feel free to park your strollers in the centre! Registration Required!

Baby Club- Come join other parents that have children birth to 1 year.  Pregnant moms are welcome too! Registration Required!

Prenatal-Free prenatal classes are available Tuesday nights for women and their support person.  Learn all about your baby and what to expect. Registration Required!

Community Programs

Hilda’s Trading Post- Every Tuesday afternoon Wednesday morning and Friday morning, we will be trading non- perishable food, household and personal items. Please no dented cans, expired food or beans.  Everyone Welcome!

Native Plant Project- Learn about gardening with plants native to Nova Scotia.  Rebecca from the Ecology Action Centre will be coming to teach us how to care for our native plants successfully.  Registration Required!

Healthy Living- Are you interested in nutrition and healthy living? Come join us as we strive to eat nutritiously and live healthy! Registration Required!

Zumba – As a partnership with the YMCA, this is a 60 minute basic Zumba dance/exercise class for beginners.  Please wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes. Registration Required!

Community Drop In-Drop in the centre to get out of the cold, have a snack and chat with other community members.  Everyone welcome to join us!

Dal Legal Aid Clinic- This is a one-on-one clinic, by appointment only. This service is free and confidential.  Registration Required!

Volunteer Meeting- Calling all volunteers – ‘experienced’ and new. Come learn what you can do to volunteer at Bayers Westwood and share your skills. Registration Required!

Program Advisory Meeting – Do you have suggestions for programming at BWFRC? Please come and share your ideas with staff regarding future programming.  All parents are welcome to join.  Registration Required!

The Role of Women In Ancient African Civilization- This presentation aims to shed light on the status and power of African women during the pre-colonial period.  Presentation will provide examples of African women’s vital roles as spiritual figures, queens and economic developers in their communities.  Open to all, Registration Required!

Community Event Meeting-  its time to start planning for our annual community event, have any ideas?  Come share them at the centre, we would love to hear your input!  Registration Required!

Food and Garden Discussion Group- come for a group chat with Libby Dean from the Ecology Action Centre. She's interested talking with people who have taken part in the classes and workshops that Ecology Action Centre has helped with such as cooking, pie making, setting up a senior's garden and a children's garden, etc.  Come share your experiences and some snacks! Scrapbooking – bring your photos or anything else you would like to include in a project. Registration Required!

Community Art- Be creative with art and see what you can make from your imagination.  Wear appropriate clothing that can get messy.  Registration Required!
